If youve ever wondered if it was time to stop taking pixel ships too seriously and move your 40 yr old ass out of your moms basement- it is if youve ever considered the above a suggestion.
to be fair to the man, or boy in his mommys basement as you would have it, the dominion teaser video bears absoloutly no relation whatsoever to Eve Online the MMO internet spaceships game.
The fact they advertising all these features and then delivered non of them shows CCP has no dialogue between its marketing and development team. Imagine coca-cola advertising coca-cola and the product development team delivering washing up liquid.
Thats CCP, that is.
Well, listen. You've got two choices: A gigantic company like Blizzard/Activision who pretty much universally cater to the lowest common denominator and create games where you get Ubersword X with pretty graphics and absolutely no real challenge, or you can frequent a relatively small "mom and pop" store like CCP and get really what amounts to a better product for what amounts to less money. I'm not in favor of Wal-Marting (WoW-Marting?) my MMO's at this point. I just worry that the industry as a whole is being sucked up by craptastic games like WoW. Sure it runs, but it's the worst online game ever. I had more fun in Shadowbane than I did in WoW...and Shadowbane was a joke.
I'm nobody, I don't fly supercaps, and I'm a meganoob. I have online gamed for roughly 20 years, but I haven't online gamed in Eve for six.
You all have reasons to complain I'm sure, and I have no doubt that the criticisms are valid. I think it could be put a little bit better by some of you, however. I seriously doubt these guys have all the resources to make this game flawless instantly like you would want - like we would all want. It is most likely a matter of them prioritizing needs. This isn't some huge corp out in Iceland, you know.
Threatening to quit the game seems counterproductive and at best, vainglorious. Take away their revenue and eventually whatever investors they have will bail out and we will be playing Eve on some private server in Roosterpoot, Texas. Trust me, it happens very quickly. How these guys manage to stay in business by not charging for the game or for expansions is beyond me.
We have a unique position here, as far as I can tell, to help these guys build a big, quality game and push moronic fluff like WoW out of the market for good. I think we have a responsibility to do that, don't you? Hell, if nothing else, it will benefit us in the long run so that we don't have to go to a WoW or Star Trek Online...which has doubtful quality.
I've seen online games come and go, and this one has a lot more potential than any I've seen in a very long time. For whatever it's worth, this is my two cents.
